Originally published in 1981, it is an illustrated encyclopedia of an imaginary world, created by the Italian architect and artist Luigi Serafini in 1976-1978. But it's not just an encyclopedia...
It is written in a cipher alphabet in an imaginary language. Luigi, now in his late 60's, refuses to translate the book, and says "he wanted his alphabet to convey to the reader the sensation that children feel in front of books they cannot yet understand, although they see that their writing does make sense for grown-ups." The only thing cracked by now is the numbering sections. The book itself is beyond explanation, so I will not even try and begin to describe it - instead I will show you some pictures:

What was inside the mind, that created this? We humans are so blessed and in the same time cursed with this thing, called imagination...
It's an amazing book, and I am so happy that I bought it. I have nothing but humble respect to the artist, who was fearless to show to the world his mind and art - so crazy and yet so beautiful.
* The book can be found as a free PDF file online and as a hard copy at amazon.
