They were one of my first attempts to draw with "a plan" with the tablet. Digital drawing is not that much different from the analog type - you still have to think ahead about composition and overall feel of the artwork. Many properties (like colors and backgrounds) you can change in the process, but it's always good to have an idea about how you want the finished work to look like.
In this particular drawing I experienced one very common problem - I have something in my head, I start making it, and the result is way off what I expected it to be. The thing is, that even if you can do something in you head, that doesn't mean that you can do it in real life (like flying, he-he). So, I visioned painting this beautiful poppy flowers, with this super cool brushes, that my new tablet has and they will be di-vi-ne. The result after 2 hours was flat and uninteresting artwork, part of which I will show here, only for sake of the example:
Now, the thing is - everyone have their own style or powers. No matter what you "want" or how hard you try, there will always be this one thing that you're really good at. That doesn't mean that we can't learn new things and tricks, but finding and developing that one true style or power will always makes us feel comfortable and "in place".
In one of the Wacom videos, that I've watched recently, Joanna Henly says something very similar: "Keeping hold of a style and keeping true to the things, that kind of make you "you" as a creative is really important."
It is not always easy, we all want to be perfect in everything. I am telling this to myself every day: don't try to be something you're not, instead - try to build a better version of yourself with each day you have.
The finished illustration looks a bit different:
